The Weekly Inventions of
Dr Splatterjacket

A man is walking down a street at nighttime, he is well lit by street lighting. It is clearly raining and he is holding an umbrella. The handle of the umbrella contains an oven. Inside the oven are two warm sandwiches. The man is about to put a warm roll to his mouth and he looks ready to eat it. On the handle it says BakeBrella.

BakeBrella

8th August 2026

Just as I was deciding whether to have a well-earned rest, or perhaps tackle one of the many jobs on my ChronoRide to-do list (sometimes having a to-do list is very inconvenient because it keeps reminding you that you ought to do things), the tracking drone I had secretly sent after Dennis suddenly contacted me.

Dennis had surfaced.

Immediately several possibilities sprang to mind.

Was he in trouble?

Had he found Zargoid 5?

Was he eating a breakfast burrito?

I have to admit the last thought may have been influenced by the fact that I was getting rather hungry myself. I opened the drone's live camera feed. The picture was perfectly clear. Dennis hadn't found Zargoid 5. He hadn’t even found Zargoid 5’s henchman ASJIOFJNOSDNFNDSUNDS ONGFONKJGNKBUYWENJNCINSIUNDXW.

Instead, he had found Zargoid 5's gerbil henchmen.

A starry night scene with shops in the background. A gerbil is talking to three henchmen gerbils.

Which made perfect sense.

Gerbils probably find it much easier to talk to other gerbils than to giant robots.

The only thing that concerned me...

...was that there were three of them.

Dennis was outnumbered. I needed to get there immediately. I dashed outside, programmed the co-ordinates into my turbo-powered hang glider and prepared for take-off. Just as the engines started warming up, the control panel flashed a weather warning.

Rain expected at destination. I rushed back inside.

Should I take my ChalkBrella? No. There was nothing I needed to draw.

My DryBin? No. There was no obvious reason to spend the afternoon standing inside a bin.

DrySmile? No. I had already brushed my teeth.

Then my stomach rumbled… Of course! The answer was obvious. I needed BakeBrella.

What is BakeBrella? BakeBrella is a revolutionary umbrella with a miniature oven built directly into the handle. Not only does it keep you perfectly dry... it also keeps your toasted sandwich perfectly warm.

Or, if you prefer, it can cook the sandwich while you're walking. Two settings. Maximum flexibility.

I arrived at tremendous speed. Dennis was still deep in conversation with the three gerbil henchmen. I was very tempted to rush over immediately.

I resisted the urge to run over to him and instead did not resist the urge to eat a warm sandwich from the handle of my BakeBrella. You need to get one of these, although be warned you might have to improve your arm muscle strength.

Note to self: I hope I’m doing the right thing by leaving Dennis to talk to Zargoid 5’s gerbil henchmen alone.
